Traveling in Cancun, Mexico
By traveler | May 16, 2008
Cancun is one of the most popular tourist spots in the world. It is located on the Atlantic coast and in Quintana Roo, Mexico’s easternmost state. This state, also known as the Mexican Caribbean, is on the Yucatan Peninsula. The center of Cancun is on the mainland where the lagoons Nichupte and Bojorquez connect. El Centro is the older part of the city, which is where you will find marketplaces like the Xel Ha.
Cancun has many tourist attractions as well as wonderful beaches. There are historical and national monuments, parks and pedestrian walkways. There are hardly any buildings in this area more than 4 stories high but there are about 140 hotels and almost 400 restaurants for you to choose from.
Over 4 million people visit Cancun each year. This means an incredible 190 flights a day! The hotel zone in Cancun is in the shape of a 7. If you are on the longer part of the 7-shaped area, the beaches are more eroded and rougher. The top of the 7 is next to softer, better beaches with gentle surf. This is because the waves on the shorter side are blocked by Isla Mujeres, a nearby island. There are inexpensive hotels and other types of accommodation all the way around the 7. For a successful vacation in Cancun, it is best to make plans well in advance. A travel membership with the Global Resorts Network is highly recommended because you will be able to save thousands of dollars on your vacation to Cancun!
There are various tours on offer, including jungle trips and swimming with dolphins. There are plenty of water sports here too, such as scuba diving, windsurfing, fishing and snorkeling. The Mayan Ruins are well worth a visit and they are quite close to Cancun. Akumal is a great beach. The name is Mayan for “place of the turtle” and turtles have been nesting here for centuries. The snorkeling is also very good here.
Xcaret is a theme park a few miles from Cancun. It is an ecological and archaeological site and features a sound and light show and exotic birds flying free. You can also visit underground streams, swim with dolphins or admire this sanctuary’s natural beauty. The Wet and Wild amusement park has plenty of water slides amongst its attractions. If you would prefer a cruise, you can try the Colombus Coaster Club or Cancun Queen. If you are lucky, you will be able to see the fish jumping around in the water.
Cancun is great for shopping and has many different shops including 3 Wal-Marts! There are 20 shopping centers in Cancun, the biggest ones of which are found on Boulevard Kukulcan. La Isla shopping center is one of the newest and best.
Cancun is one of the safer Mexican cities and there is something here for everyone. A booking with your Global Resorts Network travel membership guarantees you the best prices and the best overall vacation in Cancun.

Traveling in Acapulco, Mexico
By traveler | May 14, 2008
Acapulco is one of the major sea ports and cities in the Mexican state of Guerrero. It is on the Pacific coast about 200 miles from Mexico City. Important cruising lines run from Panama, California and San Francisco via Acapulco. It is only home to about half a million people but is a very popular tourist spot. Acapulco is actually the biggest city in this state.
Acapulco is popular with tourists all year round but more so during spring life, with the night life being a strong attraction. The biggest night clubs in Latin America are found here. Acapulco gained enough of a following to compete with Cancun as the most popular Mexican vacation destination. Cancun is also very popular of course. The cheapest way to visit these Mexican hotspots is by air. If you are thinking about taking a trip to Acapulco, the most economical way of doing it is to get a travel membership with the Global Resorts Network, because this can save you thousands of dollars!
Honeymooners love Acapulco, especially if they are on a Pacific cruise ship. Acapulco enjoys year round good weather which is another bonus. Many tourists are from other areas of Mexico but a lot come from America too. Thanks to the tourism in Acapulco, the bars and clubs are busy all through the year. If you like clubbing, try Andromeda or The Palladium.
An attraction rapidly growing in popularity is cliff diving. Cancun does not really offer this but the younger crowds love it. There is plenty of stunning cliff side if you want a great diving experience. The island of Roqueta is worth a visit. Glass bottom boats go to the island and back. There are also plenty of other tours and water sports are popular all year in Acapulco. How about horse riding at Pie de la Cuesta? You can also sample the local coconut gin there!
The Mayan Palace is interesting to visit for the day. You can play golf or tennis there or travel the interconnecting waterway system on a kayak or pedal boat. There are various malls, shops and traditional marketplaces throughout Acapulco if you want to do a bit of shopping. The flea markets can be a lot of fun and you might find a bargain or 2 to take home with you as a souvenir. There are also art galleries dotted around Acapulco.
Whether you want to try parasailing, waterskiing, jet-skiing, a resort on the sea is perfect. There is also a very good water park near the entrance of the town called Cici, which has a simulated wave machine so you feel like you’re in the sea. There is also a hot air balloon ride there, the chance to swim with dolphins and a variety of shows.
Acapulco is slowly getting busier than Cancun in spring break attendance because of the vast amount of offer! If you have a travel membership with the Global Resorts Network, you can save a lot of money on your tickets to the beautiful resort of Acapulco, which means you have more spending money left over to enjoy yourself with!

Traveling in Mexico City, Mexico
By traveler | May 12, 2008
Mexico City is the capital of the country and a fascinating place to visit. It is the cultural center, the industrial center and the main economic center. Almost 20 million people live in Mexico City, which makes it the second largest in the world and the most populated city in the western hemisphere. The Powers of the Union are at seat here. Mexico City is in the Valley of Mexico, also named the Valley of Anahuac. This is right in the middle of the country.
Mexico City is one of the most diverse places in the world and holds plenty of surprises for tourists. Many travelers to Mexico overlook Mexico City because of the focus on Mexican beach resorts instead. If you like international cuisine, world-class museums, stately mansions, archeological treasures, great city parks and a selection of inviting gardens and plazas, Mexico City is right for you. The National Museum of Anthropology is one of the best museums in the world and you could spend the whole vacation there because it is so big!
Don’t be put off by the size of Mexico City because you can confine your vacation to a couple of interesting areas and maybe make a couple of other trips. You can reach all the attractions with relative ease. Try Bellini, the revolving restaurant 45 floors up, which offers stunning views of the whole city.
There are plenty of historical landmarks in Mexico City which makes it very interesting to visit. The Historic Center is there, as are the floating gardens. Both of these are World Heritage Sites. Some famous landmarks within the Historic Center are the Palacio Nacional and the Plaza de la Constitution. The ancient Aztec ruins are near the Templo Mayor, the tallest skyscraper in the whole of Latin America.
If you like parks and museums, you will be in your element in Mexico City. Try the Museum of Estanquillo or the Museum of Cartoons and Magazine. The kids will love that one too. The Golden Angel of Independence is not far from the museum, the most recognizable icon and landmark in all of Mexico City. The Angel was modeled after the Champs-Elysees in Paris, by command of the Emperor Maximilian, and is situated on the Paseo de la Reforma.
This avenue also connects the National palace to the Castle of Chapultepec. The National Palace is the seat of government and the Castle is where royalty used to reside. It is now a museum. It is an important part of Mexico City today and houses the financial district. The landmarks on the way and historical importance of this road make it interesting for tourists to explore.
Another avenue to explore is Avenida de los Ingurgentes. At almost 20 miles long, it is the longest avenue in the world! The city zoo is a lot of fun to visit if you are in Mexico City. It has grown in size over the last few years and contains more animal species. If you are thinking about traveling in Mexico City, book those tickets now because there are many interesting attractions just a few steps from your hotel door! Driving and Transport in Mexico
By traveler | May 10, 2008
Driving conditions in Mexico can be very different from in America. The roads are different and so are the acceptable ways to drive! A lot of public transportation does not observe the same traffic regulations that apply in the US, so don’t be surprised if they ignore the speed limits or run through red lights.
Your United States driver’s license is valid in Mexico so if you plan to take a vacation there, you won’t need to get any special license or pass. The Mexican government does carefully regulate the entry and exit of vehicles crossing their border. The law in Mexico requires that only the owner of the car should drive it, nobody else. If you break this Mexican law, they might seize your car and never return it, so ensure nobody else drives your car except the legal owner, even for a few minutes, because it isn’t worth the risk of having it confiscated permanently.
Just like you need insurance in the United States, you also need it in Mexico. This includes both owned vehicles and rental cars. It is fairly easy to get Mexican auto insurance either side of the border and in most cities. This is no problem. Remember that United States liability is not valid in Mexico. This includes almost all United States issued collision and comprehensive coverage. It is invalid if the driver of the vehicle is found to be incapacitated by alcohol, drugs or something similar.
It is useful to know that the Mexican emergency services are contacted on 060 rather than 911. If you are unfortunate enough to have an emergency, this is the number you need to call. You might find that the call is not answered so you will need to keep trying. If you are on a Mexican toll road, you can call the Angeles Verde (Green Angels). These are a fleet of trucks and have bilingual crews. If you can’t contact them for any reason, you should pull off to the side of the road and raise your hood. If you do this, it is quite likely they will find you.
If you are unlucky enough to be involved in a car accident, you will be taken into police custody until it is sorted out. They will hold you until they decide who is liable and find out whether you are able to pay a penalty, if there is one. If you did not buy the Mexican liability insurance, they might stop you from leaving the country. You might also be denied departure even in the case of a life threatening emergency.
This means that getting Mexican liability insurance is vital. You don’t want to ruin your vacation with time spend in jail or hefty fines. Until all parties are satisfied that responsibility for the accident has been properly assigned, you will remain in police custody. If the accident was serious, there is also a chance that you will face criminal charges if you don’t have the correct paperwork or if someone other than the legal owner was driving your vehicle at the time.

Getting Ready to Travel to Mexico
By traveler | May 8, 2008
When traveling abroad, you need to remember that citizens of the Unites States are sometimes targeted by foreigners for malicious acts. This can happen in many different countries. If you are planning a vacation in Mexico, you should check these facts so you can be as prepared as possible to have an enjoyable and safe trip.
The United States Embassy recommends that you apply caution when traveling in Mexico. Women traveling by themselves should be especially careful. Ensure nobody seems to be following you and keep an eye on anyone who comes close. Unaccompanied woman have been robbed, raped and even abducted while their captors used their credit cards at ATM’s or in shops. Women are not the only ones who need to watch out for this. Men can also be at risk of crime and sometimes Mexican themselves can fall victim to it. It is important to stay in populated areas and only travel when it is daylight. These are basic precautions to take and will not spoil your trip at all. It is always better to be safe than sorry and this applies to travel as much as anything else.
Kidnapping is one of the problems in Mexico. Almost all reported kidnapping cases involve travelers. The crime rate for this criminal act is sharply on the increase so if you are an American citizen overseas, you should travel in well-populated areas only and travel in the daylight hours. Kidnappings such as these have happened in almost all major Mexican cities and are being called “express kidnappings” because the victim is only kidnapped for a short period of time while their credit card is drained in shops and ATM’s. The middle class can be at risk from kidnappings in Mexico, as well as wealthier visitors. Few perpetrators of this type of express kidnapping can be tracked down since all you can give is a description and a few other details. The best thing is just to take care and don’t carry huge amounts of money or jewelry on your person. That’s what the safety deposit box in the hotel is for.
Crime sometimes occurs on the highways as well as the streets, so it is recommended that travelers should be cautious all the time, including when they are driving. Avoiding night travel is wise, according to the United States Embassy, if you are traveling for business or pleasure in Mexico. You should do everything that needs to be done in the daytime and not driving around unnecessarily at night, leaving yourself open to crime.
If you have to travel by night, you should use the toll roads rather than the free highways. You should keep your windows up and your doors locked. Whether you are in the town or on the highway, keep these tips in mind at all times. These tips are advised by the United States Embassy for protection and for the prevention of crime. If you happen to be stopped in heavy traffic or even some traffic, make sure there is room to maneuver out of it if you need to. Finally, never ever hitchhike! It is better to be safe than sorry and hitchhiking with random strangers is asking for trouble.
